I’ve decided that it’s time to make a running comeback. I ran cross country and track all through college. I was actually pretty good at it at one point. Good enough for it to pay for 5 years of college. I think I could have been better if I could have just convinced myself I was indeed a distance runner and not a sprinter, or a hurdler, or a triathlete. I wanted to be everything but a distance runner, my true calling. Anyway, I never discovered this in time, but I did discover that I could be a good coach. Anway, when I was a runner, I was in the best shape of my life. Now? Not so much, so I’m getting back into running again. I say sort of because technically at the speeds, or lack of speed, I’m running at, it’s suspect if it’s actually running. I’m using my Nike+ iPod system to keep track of my runs. Here are my last five:

I’m traveling this week for the TechEd conference in Ontario, CA. I’m not that far away from home, just an hour flight across the desert, but I always feel so much further away. Tonight however, I tuned into the internet to get my fix of home. Both the Diamondbacks and the Suns were playing, and being in Ontario all but sealed the deal that I wasn’t going to be able to watch either. Not so, MLB TV was broadcasting the Dbacks game live online for free and the Suns had a live feed of the game with stats and instant scoring updates. I logged into Dbacks.com to watch the Diamondbacks, as you can see from the photo, and kept an eye on the live feed on the Suns.com site.

The Suns game was pretty exciting, although I know it would have been better to actually see it unfold, but at least I got to see it. I’m still watching the Dbacks. It’s a pretty good game too, 4-5 in the 8th, and the quality of my stream is surprisingly good. It looks better in a smaller window though. So the next time I have to travel, I’ll be sure to log on to the internet to get my taste of home.

No, we didn’t sell the house, but my fantasy football team won a game. Yep! We won! Hey, it’s a big deal to me. It’s tough sucking at something, and sometimes no matter what you do, the stars don’t align right and you just suck. That’s my fantasy team this year. No breaks for me, but this week, wow, we scored some major points. Okay, so I only beat a 3-6 team, but we scored 163 points. That’s awesome. We would have beat everybody this week with that score, including the Tony Romo led Red Machine. We rocked! Sorry Jaime & DeeDee.

Finally Marc Bulger is playing like a real QB, and Brian Westbrook just continues to kick ass. Maybe there’s still hope for me making the playoffs this year. We’ll see.

So do you get it now? Yep. My beloved DBacks got swepted by the Rockies. It’s a darn shame. If they only knew how much shit we went through to watch the games while in Ptown, they would have tried a little harder. Oh, well. I guess it just wasn’t in the cards. There’s always next year, right?

Well, I’m proud of what they accomplished, but it doesn’t mean I’m going to buy any Sedona red just yet. I’m still hanging on to my black, purple and teal until it disintegrates. Go Dbacks!

Time for some Suns action now I guess.

Basically they suck. Well, not the whole team, but my QBs, and they usually score most of the points for the team. Alex Smith, SF, went out in the first drive with a hurt shoulder after managing to score -1 pt. Now he’s out for at least 2 weeks. My other QB, Mark Bulger, St. Louis, didn’t do much better. He scored a whopping 1.5 pts. That’s pretty much pathetic. QBs average 20-25 pts per game. Bulger’s got 39 total for the first 4 weeks. Really pathetic! Then my best player, RB Brian Westbrook, Philly, didn’t even play yesterday. Zero points. Argh!!

So going into the MNF game, Otis had five players playing, and all my players were done. I had a total of 86.9 points and Otis had like 43 points. All she needed was to score about 42 and I was toast. She had Carson Palmer, a RB, WR, and two defensive players. Carson Palmer can score 40 on his own, but not tonight. New England shut down the Bengals and Otis in the process. I snuck out a win.

Now hopefully this score will stand. I’ve been disappointed before on the day after when Yahoo! refigures all the scores. That better not happen. I’m now 2-2 and 4th in my division. Whoohoo! Go CoopCam Kabaam!

Oh yeah! The dust has settled on the first week of fantasy football, and what an exciting week it was. There were some great matchups. The Red Machine simply kicked ass this week, which is funny because Mo & Kelli couldn’t even figure out how to log into their team until Sunday night. Good thing they didn’t need to. Tony Romo scored 49 points for them! That’s pretty awesome. And of course it didn’t hurt having the first pick in the draft and scoring LT. They look like the team to beat this year. Can they handle the pressure?

Well, my CoopCam Kabaam team won this week thanks to Chris Carr, Oakland DB, who scored me 17 points. That’s pretty good for a defensive player. It’s good to get a win over Jersey Girl. Next up is the FlipFlops who also scored a victory in Week 1 over Dr. C’s Berserkers. I guess for week one if you’re a Dr. you win, as Dr. R’s miseryrisers also won over Otis Time.

Okay, how can you only score 65 points in fantasy football? What’s up with that Otis? You have to be seriously neglecting your team to only score 65 points. Sad. Let me help you out. Hot Tip: Terry Glenn has a knee injury and may miss the season.

Nice win Les and Rys. Lester’s Ladies and Screaming Hyenas will be tough to beat this season. Of course, those hyenas are riding on the Patriots’ back. Better hope they don’t have a set back this season. Be careful Jaydevils, I may be talking trash about you next week if you don’t get that team in order. You are the defending champion, remember?

Another year older. Sigh…

This past week flew by. I was extremely busy with adding working out back into my schedule. Yeah, and you know me, I don’t do it half ass by any means. I just jump right in to the fire. You can read about my aching muscles on my fitness blog. Click the Fitness tab above.

I hate spam. Thought I’d share that on my blog today. I have a bunch of my hurdle videos up on YouTube for my track team, and they just got hit by a wave of spam this past week. I just spent about 10 minutes cleaning it all up. I don’t know why these people bother. Bug off! If you want to watch a spam free hurdle video, check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiOvFYZLFq0

Speaking of YouTube, I was trying to figure out what the Crank That Soulja Boy Superman dance was all about last week, so of course I went to YouTube to see if there were any videos. Yeah, only about 500! Incredible collection. Incredible in size, but not necessarily in talent. Apparently anybody and everybody who can do this dance felt the need to video tape themselves doing it. It’s kind of cool, but I’m a little too old to be learning line dances. Not that old people shouldn’t dance, but the only place anyone would be doing that dance I’m sure I would not want to spend time in. I get enough teenie bopper hiphop culture at work. But if you would like to learn to do the Crank That Soulja Boy Superman dance, watch up:

Skip all the way to the end to see the dance with the music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLGLum5SyKQ

I know it is going to be hard for everyone to participate in the live draft, but remember, you do not have to be present. You can set your team to auto draft and the computer will give you the next player on your list for you. So if you can’t make it, it’s really not a big deal. If you can make it, get your asses out of bed early and get online. Draft time is 11am this Sunday, August 12th. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Let the fun begin. We’re all set once Lisa Schwarz registers her team.
