Back into Running Again – Sort of

I’ve decided that it’s time to make a running comeback. I ran cross country and track all through college. I was actually pretty good at it at one point. Good enough for it to pay for 5 years of college. I think I could have been better if I could have just convinced myself I was indeed a distance runner and not a sprinter, or a hurdler, or a triathlete. I wanted to be everything but a distance runner, my true calling. Anyway, I never discovered this in time, but I did discover that I could be a good coach. Anway, when I was a runner, I was in the best shape of my life. Now? Not so much, so I’m getting back into running again. I say sort of because technically at the speeds, or lack of speed, I’m running at, it’s suspect if it’s actually running. I’m using my Nike+ iPod system to keep track of my runs. Weekend Ride to Prescott

C and I packed our bags and headed north for the weekend. We have a friend who’s family owns a “compound” up in Walker, AZ, which is between Prescott Valley and Prescott. The place is located way back in the woods a ways past Lynx lake. I’m not sure how many acres they have, but it’s big enough to have 3 cabins and huge barn area.

We checked the weather before we left to make sure we wouldn’t get any rain since we were riding our motorcycles up. Slight chance was the forecast, so we took our chances. The ride up was beautiful but as we got closer to Prescott Valley we noticed the ominous dark clouds above our heads. As luck turns out, we actually missed the storm. When we got to PV, the ground was wet and the air chilly. The storm had just passed through, so we continued on into Prescott to grab a bite to eat. The same situation greeted us in town, where the rain has just passed through leaving wet roads and a just rained smell.

After our lovely dinner at Murphy’s in downtown Prescott, we back tracked to Walker and our friends cabin. Our luck ran out as soon as we turned off the main road headed for the cabin. We got a lite rain as we rode the last 5-6 miles. It was hard to see through the windshield. Why don’t bikes have windshield wipers? I wonder. But we made it and enjoyed a relaxing weekend in the pines.

Drag Queens & Lesbians, Oh My!

Another one of my friends turned 40 this week. This seems to be happening on a more frequent basis these days. And 40 seems to be a significant number for most people, so this is grounds for major celebration. Such is the case for my friend Dr. Kelly, who flew out from Misery (Missouri) where she practices medicine, and partied like it was 1999 (again). She did it in style, renting a 24 passenger Hummer limo and inviting all of her closest friends, myself included.

It was definitely an interesting evening. We had everything from drag queens, to dancing, to singing, to drinking, of course. And we covered some ground starting in Phoenix, then out to Scottsdale and back to Phoenix. Half the time we had no clue where we were. It feels like you’re in a tunnel when your in the limo. You can’t see out the windows. The limo would pull up to a bar, and we would all pile out, look up at the place, and say in unison, “Oh, Amsterdam!” or “Oh, BS West!”

Every bar we went into turned into an instant party when we rolled up. The best was Forbidden. It was so dead we weren’t even sure it was open. We walked in and instantly started dancing and the whole place filled up. I think they were sad to see us go.

We got a nice welcome at BS West in Scottsdale. They saved us a big table right up front for the drag show. What is it with drag shows anyway? People love them. I don’t get it. But if you have to see one, I guess seeing the best is best. We were graced with a show by a Phoenix drag queen legend, Barbra Seville. Have a look:

So, it was an interesting night. Now I must rest up because I’m sure there will be another 40th birthday for someone right around the corner. Happy Birthday Kelly!. It was great celebrating with you.

It’s been great knowing ya! Yes, I’m moving to the company that you will probably end up buying, but that’s all rumors. Just like the rumor that 3G is on its way. But rumors just aren’t going to keep me around any longer. After what seems like 10 years, I must say good bye to a company I know very well. Tmobile has been good to me. I don’t have many complaints, and when I did, they were always good for a nice effort to make it better. But now I have a need for speed, and Tmobile just can’t deliver.

Another year older. Sigh…

This past week flew by. I was extremely busy with adding working out back into my schedule. Yeah, and you know me, I don’t do it half ass by any means. I just jump right in to the fire. You can read about my aching muscles on my fitness blog. Click the Fitness tab above.

I hate spam. Thought I’d share that on my blog today. I have a bunch of my hurdle videos up on YouTube for my track team, and they just got hit by a wave of spam this past week. I just spent about 10 minutes cleaning it all up. I don’t know why these people bother. Bug off! Speaking of YouTube, I was trying to figure out what the Crank That Soulja Boy Superman dance was all about last week, so of course I went to YouTube to see if there were any videos. Yeah, only about 500! Incredible collection. Incredible in size, but not necessarily in talent. Apparently anybody and everybody who can do this dance felt the need to video tape themselves doing it. It’s kind of cool, but I’m a little too old to be learning line dances. Not that old people shouldn’t dance, but the only place anyone would be doing that dance I’m sure I would not want to spend time in. I get enough teenie bopper hiphop culture at work.
