Tiny Camping in a Teardrop

T@b Camper

About four years ago we decided to buy a camping trailer. I didn’t want anything too big, as I didn’t have a big truck and wasn’t comfortable towing things. I already have a small 4×6 utility trailer and always had trouble backing that little thing up, so the idea of a bigger camper was daunting. We decided to go tiny. I mean really tiny.  We ended up buying the TAB S Max teardrop trailer by Little Guy. The whole thing only weighs 1670 lbs dry. You could tow that with a car. Well, I wouldn’t, but I’m just saying.

The Tab offers a rear u-shaped dinette and sofa bed which converts to a nice size comfortable bed. Next to the dinette you will find a stereo-TV in the overhead and a heat pump. There is a front shower with a toilet. Along the front wall there is a sink, two burner range, and extra counter space. There’s also a wall mounted AC, 3 way refrigerator, 19″ entertainment center featuring sight and sound stereo, DVD, and an LED TV monitor. What more do you need? Hot water? Certainly. We have no trouble finding hot water as this unit features the Alde 110 volt instant hot water system.

The only thing I would add is a back up camera and a better battery. Battery project is complete, but I’m still working on the camera idea.

Not surprisingly this thing is easy to tow. I’m towing it with a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee and hardly know it’s back there once we hit the road. I get pretty good gas mileage on the highway and have little difficulty heading up the mountain on I-17 or HW87 in Arizona. The tiny size makes this a great camper for boondocking all over Arizona, but we’re finding some good full-hookup spots as well. But by far my favorite spots don’t have a water spigot or electrical wire in sight. This shot was from our trip to Monument Valley last summer. That was a cool spot, but I prefer trees with my camping.

We found this boondocking spot up on the Mogollon Rim off Young Hwy. Lots of shade and trees. Very quiet and relaxing.
