When I was nearing fifty three years ago, I had a minor panic attack. I was out of shape and a little over weight. I wasn’t obese by any means, but I weighed the most I’d ever weighed in my life and my knees felt like they belonged to a 70 year old woman. I couldn’t even squat and get back up. Long story short, I made a change, and changed my life for the better.
Now I lift weights 4-5 days a week and throw in some HIIT workouts and cardio 2-3 days a week. I found a really good workout program online that I’ve been following for about 6 months now. It seems to be working. Day 5 is Back, Delts, and Arms. It’s probably the longest of the five workouts, and most days I split it up into two workouts and do the last five exercises at home later in the day.
This workout is also a superset workout, meaning you do two exercises back to back without rest as a set. So I’ll do a set of Barbell Shoulder Press followed immediately by a set of Machine Lat Pull Downs then rest 60 seconds. Repeat for 3 sets. Then move on to the next set of superset exercises. Sometimes if the gym is crowded I skip the supersets because it’s hard to hold two machines for a period of time. As soon as you leave to do the other exercise, someone usually jumps in on you. So rude. Ha!
I shot a short sample of a few of the exercises today at LA Fitness. It was fairly quite at the gym, so I snuck in a few camera shots. I’m doing 20lbs Dumbbell Bent Over Reverse Flys, 45lbs Cable Straight Arm Push Downs, 70lbs Cable Seated Rows, and 50lbs EZ Bar Curls. Not bad for a 50 year old. Wink Wink.
